Workington Rambling Club - Constitution
Name The Club shall be known as the Workington Rambling Club.
Aims
a. To encourage the pastime of rambling and foster a greater love, use and knowledge of the countryside.
b. To secure special travelling and other facilities for its members.
c. To cooperate with other organisations in these matters.
d. To arrange a social programme for its members.
Membership Membership shall be in two categories:
a. Full member Must be a member of this category if participating in a club ramble. Senior members are 18 years and over, Junior members are under 18 years.
b. Associate member This category is for Ramblers affiliation use.
Persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
All applications shall be on the appropriate form. The Committee shall have the power to terminate the membership of any member who acts in contravention of the Rules or to the detriment of the Club or Committee members. Any such decision may be taken by a two thirds majority of the Committee present at the meeting where such business arises.
Subscriptions The annual subscription is due on 1 January each year.
Officers The Club Officers shall be elected annually and shall consist of Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Social Secretary and Press Secretary.
Committee The Committee shall consist of the Club Officers and eight other members elected annually, five to form a quorum. A President and an Auditor (not members of the Committee) shall be elected annually. Cheques drawn on the Club bank account may be signed by any two of the following: Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer.
The Committee may make such temporary rules, consistent with these Rules, as it deems necessary, and may appoint sub-committees for special purposes. All temporary rules shall be submitted to the next Annual General Meeting for confirmation or otherwise.
Annual General Meeting The Annual General Meeting shall be held in February of each year and is open to all members, fifteen to form a quorum. The Secretary and Treasurer shall present their annual reports. Members desiring alterations or additions to the Club Rules must submit resolutions to the Secretary in writing at least seven days before the meeting.
Special Meeting A special meeting of the Club can be called by the written request of ten members, addressed to the Secretary and accurately stating the business to be transacted.
Rambles The Club recognises that climbing, hill and country walking, and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of, and accept these risks and be responsible for their own activities and actions. The Club, its Officers, Committee members and persons acting on its behalf cannot be held liable for any loss or injury occurring to any member of the Club while taking part in its activities.
When members wish to leave the appointed ramble route they must inform a Committee member and/or a member of their group of the route they propose to take. In inclement weather members must keep together in their group(s) and ensure awareness of the whereabouts of all members of their group. Members must be at the starting and finishing points at the arranged times. The right is reserved for members of the Committee to alter or cancel any item on the prearranged programme according to the weather conditions prevailing on the day, or due to low turnout for rambles, i.e. ten or fewer attending.
Dissolution of the Club In the event of the club being dissolved, any remaining assets will be donated to a local charity i.e. Cockermouth Mountain Rescue.
